Many of us consider Botox when we notice signs of ageing because it is a beauty trend that has been around for quite some time. It has become increasingly popular because the injectable produces results without wounding the patient’s skin.

If you’ve considered Botox but haven’t pursued it because of the many myths surrounding it, the following four are the ones that you can stop believing:

  1. Botox causes you to harm in the long-term. This is perhaps the most common myth surrounding this treatment but it’s just not true. Botox has been around for a long time, almost 20 years, and if something has lasted this long and continues to be popular because it is safe. If harmful effects were a part of it, Botox would not be around today and there would not be millions of patients interested and millions of treatments administered.
  2. Botox builds up in your body as time goes by. Simply put, you pee out the protein and it is excreted out of your system just like other drugs, so this myth is exactly that; a myth. Botox molecules bind to the receptor located on the nerve ending, and once that happens, the receptor will break down and the protein will be reabsorbed and metabolized by the body, meaning it does not build-up in your body over time.
  3. Botox freezes your face and gives off an unnatural appearance. This is another common myth and many people assume this treatment will provide the patient with an odd look that won’t allow them to show any facial expressions. While too much Botox may lead to this, applying smaller doses will simply soften your age lines and ensure your face can move and express emotions clearly. Personal preference will play a part in this as well as some patients prefer a stronger dose, so it’s not a “one-size-fits-all” situation.
  4. Botox is only meant for wrinkles. While this is the reason most people turn to Botox, it is not limited to wrinkles and actually has other uses as well. Botox can be used to help slim a person’s jaw and you can even inject it into the chewing muscle, which would narrow a person’s face. Botox can also be used for those who suffer from excessive sweating in their feet, underarms and palms, which is very effective in providing the patient with more confidence and eliminating their embarrassment.
